  • You can read about our dietitians areas of expertise here.
  • If you want to discuss which dietitian would best suit your needs, please call our friendly reception team on 9431 4337 or email

What type of appointments do you offer?

  • We offer face-to-face appointments in Eltham, Croydon and Alphington.
  • We also offer phone and telehealth appointments with our dietitians as we understand that not everyone is able to come to our practice and meet with the dietitian face to face.

Do I need a referral from my GP to book an appointment with a dietitian?

  • A referral from a GP is not required to make an appointment with one of our dietitians.
  • However, chronic disease management (CDM) plans are required for Medicare rebates to apply.

How much does an initial appointment cost?

  • An initial consultation is 60 minutes and costs between $165 and $220.
  • For longer, more complex or specialty areas, the initial consultation will cost between $180 and $270.
  • Initial consultations with 2 family members are $330 for 120 minutes and consults with 3 family members $405 for 150 minutes.

How much do review appointments cost?

  • A standard review appointment is 30 minutes and will cost $90 and $95 for specialty areas.
  • Shorter reviews are $55 for 15 minutes and extended reviews are up to $210 for 60 minutes.

Can I use private health insurance?

  • We have facilities to process claims for many private health insurance funds on the day of your appointment where possible. The private health fund claim is processed first and the balance is then payable. Private health fund rebates vary and depend on the type of cover and the individual health fund’s policies.
  • Contact your private health fund for more information about what rebate your level of cover entitles you to.

Can I get a Medicare rebate?

  • Medicare offers rebates of $55.10 for clients with a Chronic Disease Management Plan from their GP. We have facilities that allow these rebates to be processed on the same day as your appointment where possible. There will be a gap payment that varies depending on the cost of the appointment.
  • Your GP can allocate up to 5 rebates per calendar year, that you can use to claim the Medicare rebate for allied health services.
  • Up to 20 Medicare rebates are available for clients with Eating Disorder treatment plans.

Our reception staff are happy to discuss this with you in more detail and answer questions as they’re able. However, only your GP can confirm your eligibility for a Chronic Disease Management Plan and issue you with one. Discuss your personal circumstances with your GP for more information.

Medicare is also able to provide additional information on Chronic Disease Management Plans and Eating Disorder Plans.

Cancellation Policy

Discover Health have a 24-hour cancellation policy. If an appointment is missed or cancelled with less than 24 hours’ notice, 50% of the total appointment cost will be charged.

We understand that appointment times can become inconvenient and need to be changed, but if a patient does not attend an appointment, other patients lose the opportunity to see the dietitian. If rescheduling is required please notify reception at least 24 hours prior to your appointment, otherwise a cancellation fee will be charged.
